Lee's Summit School District Elementary Keyboarding Program

The third grade keyboarding program in Lee's Summit is a fifteen lesson unit. The goal of the program is for students to learn proper keyboarding technique and correct key stroking. The curriculum is a multimedia presentation incorporating Writer Plus (a portable, battery operated word processor) tutorials along with PowerPoint presentations that are embellished with sounds and graphics. The table below shows a few of the slides used in the PowerPoint presentations. This program is facilitated by keyboarding teacher associates.

The fourth grade keyboarding program is made up of fifteen lessons delivered by keyboarding teacher associates in the classroom. The Whiteboard Keyboarding Technique developed by Dr. Mona Casady at Missouri State University is used to reinforce correct key stroking. PowerPoint presentations facilitate the program. The fourth grade program focuses on proper technique while increasing key stroking speed and accuracy.

The fifth grade program is taught by classroom teachers in the computer lab using Word Wacker, a keyboarding program. The seven lessons use PowerPoint presentations to deliver the program which focuses on speed and accuracy.

The sixth grade program is a five lesson multimedia unit taught by classroom teachers in the computer lab using Word Wacker. Emphasis is placed on proper keyboarding technique, as well as, speed and accuracy. PowerPoint presentations are used to deliver the program.
